I am not too familiar on the USA pennies. Are there any dates / mint marks I should be looking for when I go through them? I am starting a collection of USA pennies and was looking for any helpful hints. I am in canada but live in a border city and can be in Port Huron MI in 10 minutes so I am hoping to go get about 20.00 in rolls to search through

As noted it says China at the far left. Are you visiting Canada or passing through? If you can find a store that deals with US coins, they may have what is called a Red Book by Whitman Publishing. Not a great book for values but really a lot of information on dates, mint marks, quantity minted, etc. Without a source like that my suggestion would be to just attempt to find one of each year and mint mark. Also, you may want to purchase an Album for those coins too. Another thing is some of those so called pennies have errors on them that make them way more valuable than a regular ond. An example is 1972 Double Die which means when you look at it, you think your seeing double and that is what it is. Also, there are some web sites that specialize in just those coins. https://www.coppercoins.com for example.

As a basic starter - save anything pre 1982 (they are 95% copper and worth about 2.7 cents apiece). Save anything that looks like a new or near new coin that goes from 1982 through 1999. And finally, save any 2009 cents unless they are in very rough condition. Finally save anything that looks like it's an error of some kind... (double die, repunched mint mark, off center etc...) That's the best advice I can give in one paragraph...

For those wondering about qazwsxed's origins. He(?) is indeed from China, and has been attempting to simulate fluency in English and/or knowledge about coins by cut-and-pasting posts made by other people on other coin forums and posting them here. He has been locked and shall remain so unless we receive a very good explanation for why he's doing this.

Sap, you moderators amaze me and make me proud to be part of a well run forum like this. I have previously been part of forums and online groups that were overrun with scam artists and spammers. You keep this forum so clean. Thank you

Heh, not surprising at all. I was noticing a startling trend of odd posts with dissimilar writing styles coming from this poster. I seem to remember this person's first post was filled with Chinese characters, English gibberish, and an incredibly laughable Barber quarter fake
