It has taken me a long time to finally select the coin for this slot in my classic silver commemorative set. Picked up this lovely, well struck, blast white Stone Mountain. Coin has blazing frosty luster in hand and is in a PCGS MS66 holder. This addition puts me at three coins to go to complete the 50 coin classic silver type set in MS condition ... and I'm fired up to finally have chosen a Stone Mountain that matches well with my set. Net mintage (after melting the returned coins) was an astonishing 1,314,709 coins ... makes the Stone Mountain Half Dollar the 2nd most 'common' coin of the entire 144-coin classic silver commemorative set. Net mintage total is exceeded only by the 1893 Columbian Half (1.55 million) and is ahead of the 1946 Booker T. Washington Half (1.00 million) ... the only three classic silver halves with net mintage greater than 1 million coins. B. Max Mehl noted the significant Stone Mountain mintage in his 1937 pamphlet " The Commemorative Coins of the United States" where he wrote ... " At any rate this coin has one distinction, which will probably never be equalled by any other issue of commemorative, in that it is today and will ever be the least rare of our commemorative half dollars - with the possible exception of the 1893 Columbian."Little did Mehl know ... writing in 1937 ... that his prediction would be blow away in 1982 when the George Washington Half Dollar was issued to the tune of over 7 million across UNC and Proof strikes. Sooo ... compare the MS66 coin above with my well circulated example ... the reverse of this coin is nearing basal state. Having a great time searching for these lovely coins ... each filled with history and stories. Hope you enjoy the photos. David

I really want one of these for my 7070. I keep seeing Fuzzys every time he post and makes me jealous. Has to be AU at least. I'm sure I can't afford a MS66 but it sure does look nice.

I could not get a picture of my coin to look good. My coin is more AU

I really enjoy the extremes of the spectrum that you collect in, the very best and the absolute worst. I just look for a quality AU or better example for my set as that is all I can afford. Again great addition and thanks for showing it.

Super addition to your set! However, you failed to mention which three remain to finish off the set...
