As with all of us here, my collection as come to mean alot to me.
I have recently evaluated the current replacement cost of my collection and came to the conclusion the it would be wise to get some form of insurance on my collection.
I checked with my homeowners insurance and they only insure numismatics of any kind up to $250 total replacement treating it as they would cash on hand.
This wont even put a dent in replacing my collection.
Can anyone recommend an insurance company they do currently or have dealt with in the past.
Also, negative reports on companies is appreciated so I know to avoid them.

Care does need to be taken when approaching your insurance company about insuring your collection. I have heard that insurance companies don't like risks and when finding out that a home has a coin collection, some would not even offer regular contents insurance as they saw the home more likely to get broken into.
Physical security for your collection...A safe...might be the best first step.

I agree with Toast, a secure safe is a good way to start. Some insurance companies will insure your collection as long as it is kept in a safe that meets their safety criteria. The safe must be a certain grade/level, bolted to concrete, be a certain thickness, and so on.

If you are a member of the ANA, they have group-rate coin collection insurance available.

With insurances of any kind so much depends on where you live. Example is auto insurances are based on statistics of location, age, marital status, sex and probably the color of your shoes. With coins I would suggest if you live in a large city invironment where crime is an issue, best listen to what has been suggested already here. Get a large safe, keep your valuables of all kinds in there and say as little as possible to insurance companies. The less someone knows what you have of value is the way to go. Try to remember that with any organization that has your informatin on their computers, there are people that can access those computers and people are people.
