I called my bank to place my order for $100 in Lincoln cents - as I always do this time of the month... I was told that each $25 box of coins would cost me $4.25 , and did I still want to place the order for the coins? I said no of course... . Looks like I'll have to go from bank to bank asking for small amounts. No way will I pay the fee. My bank is Union Bank of California. How many of you roll searchers are getting hit with fees like this?

First time I've heard of this, I assure you that I wouldn't be banking with them anymore. I HATE when corporations nickel and dime (no pun intended) the little guy to death just to make a buck.

US Bank is doing it here. I mentioned this to a buddy at Home Federal, and they're implementing the same, soon. Many banks in the Northwest are refusing change over 10.00, rolled or not.

I would be surprised if they would do this to business accounts, but then again I wouldn't.

Fioti,
What US bank do you bank at? I bank at the Bremerton branch here in WA, and I don't get any fees. However, I do have a close relationship with all the tellers. Trust me, it pays (literally) to make friends with all of them.

I agree with Mitch - treat them nice. I feed all my local banks w/ loaves of pumpkin bread at Christmas time.

I understand a bank is a business, and that they aren't here to support coin collectors.
However, don't you think they make enough money off of us? I mean, they take your deposits and make money off of them. They make money off of loan interest.
Can't they be decent enough to sell coins at face value?

Banks never miss an opportunity to soak their customers with unneccessary fees. I recently received a personal check written to me at Bank of America, and when I walked into their local bank to cash it I was told I'd have to pay a $4 fee

Bank fees are crazy. Especially when you figure we saved their butts with hundreds of billions of taxpayer bailout dollars. The Gov lends them billions of dollars at nearly zero % interest and they raise credit card and loan rates to obscenely crooked rates. I do as little business with banks as possible. If they're starting to charge you guys that roll search they're telling you that they don't want your business anymore. Do them a favor and join a friendly credit union.

It isn't the banks business to supply coin collectors with rolled coins. You are a customer correct, but you receive interest on your deposit, it is not part of their contract to supply you with boxes of coins. That has a cost and they are in their right to charge you for this "Service". I like to get boxes also but I know that is is at the favor fo the bank. Stop expecting something for nothing. Saying that, I would go to another bank, tell them what you are looking for, and if they agree I would open up a new account.

Greed Greed Greed "most" have become greedy they figured out there are many collectors buying boxes of rolls to roll search, so they want to get a piece of the pie. Now if a bank has to pay a fee to get boxes of coins, then I could see a charge, not sure how the whole bank thing works when they order coins do they pay a fee to order? My bank PNC has never charged me any fee for boxes "YET" but they do ask me to let them know a week ahead of time what I want....

Here's a little insight from the inside, and how our stupid Government thinks. My wife has been in banking for over 30 years, and this was announced recently, and all it's going to add up to is more fees. To theoretically protect the consumer, recently it was decided that banks were charging too much transaction fees on debit card transactions (to the merchants). Never mind that its the bank, not the merchant that stands to lose, and they do, when the bank doesn't get paid, or if there is a fraudulent transaction. The merchant gets his dough by law.So the Gov't reduced how much banks can make on this to a ridiculous amount to "protect the Consumer". Banks have to comply, and we aren't going to go back to the days of writing checks, but you might see those type of transactions increase, believe it or not. So what will Banks do? Charge more for everything that they can to make up for this large reduction in their revenue. So get used to more fees. They are coming. Whenever the Gov't tries tp stick their nose in business they know nothing about, the consumer takes it on the chin. Many banks, especially the large ones, take huge losses in this area every year-we just don't hear about it.

Bank of America hit me with a 4.50 change order fee for a box of pennies, when I saw the charge on my statement, I called and complained and they took it off my acct. I have several accts with them, including a business acct.
Starting June, they also started charging to get a duplicate debit card if yours is worn out.
TD doesn't charge for coins and they are actually very nice about it, so I have been getting them there.
