A very good man allowed me to purchase this very nice coin. It weighs 3.5 grams. It looks unlike a normal 1941 cent. It is full size diameter on a thicker planchet. Anyone else have one or info pertaining to said? Looks to be golden color perhaps 75/25 copper nickel, or maybe some silver? Thoughts, comments welcome. Thanx...Gusp

Heritage has several 1941 thick planchet brass cents in their auction archives

Biokemist6, you are a great help. Coin looks the same as Heritage coin. My thanx for info. This one is 3.5 grams minimum. Any clues as to how many were made, what metals used, or why? Gusp

I seem to remember reading an article on extra thick Lincoln cents in the last couple of months, but can't remember where. Explanation; The US Mint does make other denomination of coins for foreign countries that do or did not have the facilities to make their own. Most of the lowest denomination coins throughout the world were struck on copper, or a alloy of copper and other metals and it was a simple mistake of one of the mint's operators taking what he or she thought was a Lincoln Cent planchet and using them to make our one cent pieces when in fact it was a foreign planchet that they chose. Your best bet is to contact Alan Herbert, the guru of errors at answerman2@aol.com about this coin, he may have the answers to your questions.
