OK, so my son and I are a few months into collecting and we have learned a lot about coins. He is still just loving the way world coins, coloured coins etc look. He is thrilled to look through boxes and put his treasures into flips and shows them off to family and friends.
We were invited to the coin meeting in our town but it is mostly adults. Does anyone know of a young collecting group?
I have found listening to the young ones perspective of coins to be enlightening and amusing. My son showed off the different Queen coins and declared, " shes like the superstar of money! My dad says some of the coins have given her a facelift."
Just a thought. If I build it maybe they will come. What do you think?

I don't know if you're familiar with the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association or not, but they are the national 'coin club.' They try to have programs, etc. with/for young numismatists. Check out their Coin Kids program this link: http://www.rcna.ca/coinkids.phpAlso check out any local coin clubs, they can be a big help to a newish collector of any age. (I just saw you have been to a club! Yes, they often are made up of adults.) Be sure to attend any coin shows in your area too. When I used to put them on I always made certain to have something for youth. As far as starting your own, I can't see why it isn't worth trying. Try to, perhaps, do it with the help of your local club (Victoria?). They may love the idea. Let schools know, etc. The RCNA I mentioned in the first part may have some advice if you contact them. Good luck!

You might want to give it a try but I just don't think it will work. My reasoning is simple. Most kids today are more into computer games, TV, movies, etc. than coin collecting. Most but naturally not all. Way, way back when us older people were kids there was little to do so things like coin collecting was one thing to try. Today, it's difficult to get kids out of the houses and away from the TV and computers.

I agree, get them involved with CCF. This site was built as a friendly place for the inexperienced and the young. Remember, anyone under 13 will need parent approval; so it is recommended that you notify us (the staff) first.

Thanks everyone. I will check out the site and look into it with our local group.
I have been impressed with the neighbourhood kids interest and just thought if they could get together with someone who knows there stuff, how much fun would it be!
They could draw there own designs, have contests for identifying coins, share what was found in there change and of course check here for fabulous information.
I am glad so many younger collectors are on here!
