I have a 1938-D Buffalo on the way back from NGC that was given a grade of MS-67. It's a real jewel and here's my question. Has ANYONE here ever gotten a Buffalo back graded MS-68? There's close to a hundredfold price jump between 67 and 68 in the 38-D. How can such a minute difference in a graded coin cause such a huge disparity in value (rhetorical question I suppose)? I'm thinking they would probably never create such wealth if they can kick it down a grade point. Thoughts? I will post pics when it gets here in the thread. Paleoguy

WOW! MS-67 population is 1519, MS-67+ is 8 while MS-68 population is only 8 total on PCGS Coin Facts. It looks as if a MS-68 is hard to find.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

the price jump is because there are so few MS-68's and there are so many left in MS-67. If you have a thousand in one grade and 1 in the next grade up you would expect that next grade up to be worth allot more than the one that is littered with coins in its population

Grading companies have to much power IMO. Who can tell the difference between 67 and 68? Is there a difference? They create the 68 rarity to get people to grade their super nice coins in hopes of the 68.

Sweet! Hope you don't mind, but I white balanced them. Is this color fairly accurate?

Thanks Numi.. The color is somewhere in the middle. There is a deep golden mint glow to the coin.

OK, maybe more like this? Maybe I could get a job with SGS and "tone" their coins

Your 38 D is gorgeous with satin surfaces and boldly struck devices. It is a beautiful coin even if it is only a 67!

ONLY a 67? A 67 for a coin that was made 73 years ago is not ONLY IMO.
I see a couple scratches above the braid in the hair. If those are on the coin and not the holder, there is where the grade comes from.
