That was a 10-minute effort to make a point in another thread, Ageka - the end result was supposed to be viewed at no more than 500px wide and for that size it would have been sufficient to deceive all but someone of your ability. I'm capable of much better, and I'm not an expert by any stretch. 50cents, I'm over there, too, but this is the place where I feel my contributions are worthwhile. CU is just a reference source for my VAM endeavors, but Coin Community is my home.

Yes I am afraid of photos in general and photoshop in particular But lucky me ; my best friend is a retired coindealer and before that he was a photo specialist converting paper photos into nice digital photos so he has two programs to despeckle and to smudge and to erase etc and the unfailing eye for photoshopped pics and in his first life he was a full time software programmer so most of the stuff he uses is written by himself I am waiting for his advice on a double eagle I tried to get grips with during half an hour But the pic falls apart before I can see anything so I think Circulated and nuked by photoshop or just lucky bad photography http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAP...21&rd=1&rd=1

I went through that seller's available feedback. He's sold gold before, and the people who buy from him buy gold. I saw other examples of the seller settling for lesser pics in his auctions, including gold. My first-glance feel for the photos in this auction is favorable. Based on a preponderance of the evidence, I'd lean towards the "lucky bad photography" side. Still, that leaves you with deciding a grade and value based on imperfect pictures, for a coin which could be worth $US300-2500. Were it me, I would pass this one by if bidding much exceeds AU value. I believe it genuine, but circulated. I would be interested to hear the conclusion your friend makes.

That was my final conclusion XF because I cannot see the hairline too well . I will let you know the sanitized version of his appraisal Last week we passed up a very nice MS63 because of the slide on the liberty side That was a real drama because without the slide it would have gone MS66 like But unfortunately we both immidiately agreed on MS63 http://cgi.ebay.fr/Piece-OR-20-Doll...28_W0QQitemZ260049164410QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3440QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you mean that unslabbed MS63 MS63 and MS64 of common years should be had for about 25% over gold value

@ SuperDave I mailed the vendor of the goldcoin asking for better pictures and got the answer that better pictures were not available and that he had a bidder at 550 euro so if I wanted to bid I had to do better then 550 euro ( I guess all very unconform the ebay policies but since I am working as an environmental specialist for the moment I cannot bother to find out the ebay notification procedure ) My friend had a short sarcastic email he sent me I think it should pass censure if not any mod can delete the offending word i can't be sure from those stuffpy pictures but yes I would estimate XF if you see a piece bitten out of it and it's dark then you know for sure, heh heh...Ok I see the forum software changed the word immidiately Can anybody tell me what stuffpy means ? The original word started with a C and means going to the restroom to relieve oneself which seems we all do regularly Is the correct political term passing feces ?

Heh. The forum software dropped the "py" suffix and substituted a synonym for the word originally used. 50cents, it certainly looks like you have a pretty good idea yourself about taking nice pictures, and I cannot fault your choice of camera. Might I ask what you're using for a copystand? I'm in the market.

Thanks I try. I use a Testrite CS-1L Copy Stand W/ Lights. I think I paid about $80 2-3 years ago. The gray surface really helps to get the white balance dialed in.

So first it substracted py then tranlated into stuff then added again py and got stuffpy which is a stuffpy translation of the original word Now I am really amazed ( tomorrow I do not have to work so I can stay up late and toke my American Heritage Dictionary of the English language (Houghton Mifflin co ) This is the only one I know which does not shy away from slang etc ) It gives as translation for the root word 1)a loosing throw of the dice ( perfectly acceptable word it says ) 2)vulgar : ( the bathroom thing ) 3)Vulgar slang ; nonsense 4)vulgar slang ; something worhtless So the same word is totally acceptable with dice but vulgar in all other use So the correct translation would have been worthless pictures But what is even more amazing is that the word comes from a root that is the same in middle english and middle dutch Well I guess the forum language module is married to Babelfish

here is another picture of the 1881-S I posted before Edited to add type of camera JVC GC-QX3HD 3.3MP that I got from ebay for something like $32.00 shipped a couple of years ago. Its shutter speed is a little slow but in macro mode you can practically set the camera on the coin and get a clear picture
