I bought a few large lots of Misc world coins from what is supposed to be a specialist coin auction house recently, and in one lot of mainly British colonial, found a 1941H Sarawak one cent in brown UNC, with some really nice slightly coloured toning on Obverse! Really shocked it slipped through the net, as these are mega rare, and fetch well in excess of $1000 in UNC. Pic's to follow!.....

Also, is this one worth getting slabbed or should I just try realise its worth raw?

Wow, Jackpot! With an estimated population of 50, you would probably need to get it slabbed mainly for the authentication issue.

For an ultra rare coin like this with only 50 known to exist, I think you must get it slabbed. For your peace of mind and the buyer's. Doing a little research on this,I see reproductions are known to exist. Now I'm starting to wonder about my Sarawak 1930 1 cent in Unc.

Yes having just done a bit of digging on the net, definitely seems the best way forward. That said, have made a comparison to some high res pics of an original that sold recently in London, I am left with no reasonable doubt. NGC are taking forever at the moment - I've been waiting nearly 6 weeks and they still haven't finished my current batch! I'll probably send a few to PCGS and see if they manage any faster!

A couple of quick pictures below. The light copper blue toning on the Obverse is really eye pleasing, and just about shows in the picture. Also, a difficult aspect to fake well.

I'm trying to put together a type-set of Sarawak. I am fascinated by that part of the world.

I actually bought a few varied fake coins, including a 1941 sarawak just to see how they were in hand. Fortunately, though they are ok at first glance, no serious buyer would be likely to be fooled by one.

Not sure where the survival figure of 50 pieces came from, but I'd guess it's more likely the lower hundreds from the number of pieces I've seen around the market the last few years

I guess the unc fake can be spotted out because it has the hair worn out, and the rest is unc.
