RedBook may have the 1999
WAM listed at $500, but
ebay says otherwise. There are a few nice ones listed for high dollar prices. But they do not seem to be selling. Maybe these need more time? Perhaps. These zinc clad coins will rot away from circulation with time. I expect we will not know the true value of these coins for many years to come. It will depend on several things. Demand, rarity, and..well thats about it. Demand and rarity. Demand being the key point here. If demand diminishes over time, price will diminish too.
In the end, its all about what someone else is willing to pay that determines value. If the someones become few and unwilling to pay a great deal, then the value will fall. Its a crap shoot really. Some of the rarer coins available demand prices that do not have anything to do with the supply. There are trends, popular demands, and a whole list of things that effect value at any given moment but may not stand the test of time. Then again, todays
ebay coin sold for $5 could be tomorrows
ebay coin sold for $500. You just don't know.
I say collect coins you like. I am myself fond of the
Wide AM cent. But I don't have any interest in selling them for a profit. I don't have any interest in selling them at all. I collect them. Which means that when I find one, I keep it. I'll let my son deal with what to do with them when I pass away. It will be daddy's little treasure he will inherit.
