It's not a coin. The two pics are the same - I assume it's the same design on both sides? If so, I suspect it's a Japanese "pachinko" game token.

Sap, it does have the same design. The scan does not show the silver color and it is not magnetic. The coin belongs to a friend. It will be interesting to see how he come up with it. Thank You, Wise One.

yep, as Sap states, both sides are the same, taking this out of the realm of a minted issue coin. IF Japanese, the lack of the chrysanthem diagnostic means it is not a gov.t issued coin. I would tend to also agree that this is a token of some sort. I would also like to know where your friend found this, because there is always a chance that a provenance may lead to a different opinion.

Tam, talked to the owner of the coin today. He owns and runs a local small grocery store and received the coin for payment not looking at it and thinking it was a quarter. Therefore I have no provenance. Now that is a ten letter word! Had to look that one up. Thanks!

With the token oriented correctly, the Chinese characters are fu rong which is the the plant known as the hibiscus.
