I have a friend that works for a local bank in town (she travels to different branches). When she has spare time she goes through halves and sets the silver aside for me. She called me a few days ago and her first words were..don't be mad at me.... Her bank shipped $4000 in halves back to the fed...If she would have seen them before they scheduled the pick up I would have had them to hunt.... Edited by Jayman931 06/28/2011 7:00 pm

don't worry about it, it was more than likely somebody's dumps anyway. It must be niced to have a teller on the lookout for you though!

Agreed, probably someone's dump. I have run into that before...it's a waste of time.

Just think how sick to your stomach you'd have been if you went through all 8k coins only to find they were all bicentennials.

lol...well this was a bag of them...so I guess it could be a dump...but she went through 8 rolls and got me two silvers (66 and 69)...I was just thinking of the possibilities...this was the main branch which got all of the halves from 5 other branches...I am thinking I missed out....hopefully next time i'll get a heads up...

Nothing you can do about it now. Be sure to let the teller know you are not mad at her, especially if she has helped you in the past.

Quote: Her bank shipped $4000 in halves back to the fed...If she would have seen them before they scheduled the pick up I would have had them to hunt.... Just an FYI, banks do not ship coins back to "The Fed". They ship them to coin banks in their region where they are sorted and stored for future deliveries to other branches of the bank. Each region has their own so called "Coin Vault" and contracts with many carriers, i.e. Loomis, Wells Fargo, Brinks and so on, to deliver the coin orders to the banks when they need it. That is why if you are an avid CRH, you buy in one region and dump in another. It is a little know secret and you have to determine where the regions draw their lines. One region runs smack dap down the middle of the city I live in. Makes dumping real easy for me.....

@freedom- so when they put it back in the brinks truck in the big heavy plastic bags its not going to the fed? I didn't know that...I don't think my friend at the bank did either cause she said they were headed to the fed....I'll have to ask her

Freedom: That's good information on the different regions! Do you know where a person can go to find out where the region territory lines are drawn?

I used to know the website that defined the regions/zones where different banks get their coins from. If you live in Florida, there are five. Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers and Miami/Dade. The region where I used to do CRH at was five minutes from the next region. Used to buy in one and dump in the other so I would not have to go back over the same coins again and again. If you look up the Federal Reserve on Google, they have different reserve area's, within those areas they define the regions and I just drilled down from there. Every bank uses this system. The only Federal Reserve that ever had monetary funds delivered back to them was Canada. Canada wanted to take all the Silver out of circulation, everything dated prior to a certain date and certain denomination was taken out of circulation and sent to the federal reserve. The only time that money gets sent to the Federal Reserve is when it is taken out of circulation, i.e. Ripped Bills, Bills with a date set by the Federal Reserve for destruction and so on. You can start here. If you lived in Florida and the teller said she/he was sending the coins back to the fed. That would translate into sending them over 1000 miles away, to Atlanta, GA. http://www.federalreserveonline.org/You can also check by Armored Delivery company which districts they serve within the region. This one is for Brinks. http://www.us.brinksinc.com/locatio...cations.aspxI don't want to give away the whole enchilada here, it took me almost two days to determine where my distict/service area was and where the next began. YOU have to call banks personally and ask where their coin vault is. Once you get a bank different from where you normally dump, work your way backwards until you get an answer that matches where you buy from. That is your dividing line. Good Luck, a little knowledge can work miracles, I hope that I have given somebody a chance to change things up and maybe get a little of the silver that is still left out there. Happy Hunting.

Great info....I live an hour and 15 minutes from the Federal Reserve in New Orleans. I'm sure my district lines are far from me....on a good note...my teller friend tells me I am the only one that comes in and asks for customer rolled coins to hunt...I live in a smaller city in Mississippi...
