A co-worker of mine that knows how I love searching coins brought his stash into me today to search before he cashed it in at the bank.

It was mostly a mix of nickels, dimes, and cents. It was about half a coffee can full. On my lunch break I sat down and did a very quick scan of the coins. I kept back the copper cents while letting all the 1982 cent go back without doing my ring test. I just didn't have time to fool with them.

Long and short of it. I kept about $1 in face value and payed him $3 for them. I gave him $3 because he had a 2000 Wide AM in the bunch. Not a MS or AU example, but still, it was a Wide AM cent.

I've looked through hundreds of dollars in cents without finding one. I find it curious that half a coffee can could yield one. But it did.

I'm not bothering with photos for this coin. Its not remarkable in any way. It simply is a Wide AM cent, year 2000. A pretty neat find for a coffee can of coins that would otherwise be sent to a counter at the local bank.

It not a shiny coin by any means, and considering that the 2000 Wide AM is the most common of the series. I figured it was worth about $3.

If you look at ebay, you will find that those honest, bid starts at .99 cent auctions do not get much for a coin like this. And this one has less eye appeal than most I've seen sold in the last year.

I feel that I offered him a fair price for his coins. I would say its worth about $3 bucks in today's market. Not that I'm an expert, but based on my observations this is the case.
