So, I like these auctions on first glance anyway, very unique. I have not bid on any yet and don't plan on biding any time soon, thought I would see what you guys thought. They appear to be mystery rolls, and the creator seems to have placed a flying eagle on the end of one side, and a gold 2.5 peso on the other, as the seller claims to have gotten them from an estate sell. Figuring gold 2.5 Peso coins go for a bit over 100 dollars, perhaps if some of these auctions ended around that number, it would be worth it, to get the other coins as a bonus, but they probably end higher than that. They list other things they found like Barber and Mercury dimes, and claims the rolls are unexplored. If they are on the up and up, you have a chance at Wheat penny's, Mercury or Barber dimes, plus a gold coin and flying Eagle. I have not researched the flying eagle coin yet, are they worth much?

Also, there are other auctions listed with other old coins on the ends than the ones in this link below. Who knows, perhaps one could bid on a roll that has two bad shaped less valuable coins on the ends (as that auction probably wont get real high), and it turns out to have a couple of Merc dimes and gold 2.5 peso's inside it. My luck if I tried that, I would find an entire interior of modern day penny's....

I also noticed that they have some listed as unexplored and others not listed that way. However, all pictures appear that one end of the rolls looks machine rolled, and the other end looks like it may have been opened and shut again....

You apparently slept through Salting 101.

The side of the gold piece not shown is either scratched or soldered, the other coin is damaged, and the center is common zincolns if you're lucky.

Have you ever seen any of this stuff in change, a roll, or anywhere else? So why do you think it could happen to this guy, not once, but hundreds of times, and every roll he sells is like this. Wouldn't you look through such rolls instead of selling them on ebay?

Check his FB, one of these conmen had feedback for buying a bunch of cull IHC.

I've watched a few of these auctions thinking along the same lines as you. However, most have gone $150+. Never thought about the reverse being damaged. Thanks for the tip. I ought to buy a few decent 1909-S cents and some 1909vdb's and put them at opposite ends of a roll of 1950s wheats and watch the bidders go nuts over the possibility of an s-vdb in the roll. Though I doubt I would get much sleep after doing such a slimy thing but that's just me.

Oh and google 'twist and crimp' to see how he makes these 'bank-wrapped' rolls. Lol.

That is why when I smell a fish, I can post it here and you guys will have it dissected like a high school lab experiment. I thought if one is getting a nice gold 2.5 peso for around 110 bucks you can't go wrong, unless the coin is damaged on the back side....

I always look for the best in people, a bad naive quality. Especially when dealing in ebay transactions....

Quiz: How many ends of a roll do you need to open to remove the contents and replace them?
Hint: How many grooves are on one side of a 33rpm 12" record?

Gonna go with one, lol....

I noticed one of my silver shops has old Buffalo nickles for a cheap price, seems like a couple of bucks each. Maybe I should by 20, put them in a roll, and say.... "Hey eBayers, look a roll of Buffalo nickels, may be a nice gem in there, and you just pay that modern day 2011 roll from the ORNL credit union no mind" geeeez lol....

Or counterfeit, or never arrives...

Where you can go wrong is to save $15, but risk losing $110.

The dark side is strong, but we have cookies.

You do that, and I will personally kick your bass.

Yeah you are right Fredd, cutting corners or looking for a "better deal", can often end in disaster....

He he he, lol I would feel to bad on the nickels, as I actually follow the golden rule in life and fear karma. But if I did, one of P.T. Barnum's favorite types would have come skippin along and pushed the bid up on it....

Naive perhaps... but bad? No way! Save it for your friends, though, Hawk. Others will likely abuse your kindly nature, if they get the chance.
