I always thought for a ms62 or higher you needed full bands

Grade and strike detail descriptors are independent of each other, there is no correlation. I only see a very few small marks on the coin so I have no doubt it is MS66.

I prefer the iridescent (rainbow) toning myself. I have a similar Merc with the darkened toning (FSB), which I am probably going to trade off on another.

To each their own! If you like it, that is what matters!

shocker, absolutely NOT. FSB is a designation like full bell lines on Frankies or full steps on a Jefferson. The MS grade stands aside from the FSB designation. Very few obvious scratches, great luster, yeah MS66.

I like the way the toning highlights the head on the obverse.

I prefer my silver coins to have at least some color to them instead of being completely blast white.

Well I was able to take a nice photo. Toning on the obverse is bla but the reverse is awesome!

Congrats on starting a new series! The Mercs are a personal favorite of mine. :)

Me too. I wonder if a Dremel with a cutting saw blade could make those bands clearer? Why then we could all say FSB's. Never could figure out why the middle ones get worn first. I would think the top and/or bottom's would be the first to get worn.

I like toning alot. this toning isn't the prettiest but I still like it. I am bidding on some dimes with similar toning on the bay right now.
