PCGS has just graded an 1837 bust Half Dime large 5 I sent in as PF20.
I believe this is a unique coin. Are there any other known proofs out there? Thanks for your input. OB

I did not see any Proof 1837 Bust Half-Dime values on numismedia. The last Proof listed is 1836.

From the PCGS "Coin Facts"
Mintage - 4
Breen (1989) listed Proof examples of LM-1 only.
Estimated Survival - 1
Logan and McCloskey (1998) were unable to verify any Proof examples of LM-1, or any other 1837 Half Dime varieties.
Thus, the existence of any Proof 1837 Half Dime is in doubt.

I also checked the PCGS Pop reports and there are no listings for 1837 proofs.

I am really wanting to see this thing, this could be a HUGE discovery, care to tell us how you acquired it? or any history to the coin you know of?

A friend had me go through a huge collection he has from decades of his family in the estate sale business. I sent in 26 coins altogether and among them was this Half Dime. I considered it to be a nice vf. The strike was especially sharp. I'll believe it when I see it, though. When PCGS updates its pop report. I'm curious what else PCGS has to say about this. I assume some pretty senior people had to sign off on that grade!

yeah I am sure there will be news posted somewhere as soon as the word gets out. Please do show us a picture of the whole coin and slab when you get it back. I have never seen one of these and frankly didn't know they were in existence. Did they send you an email telling you what it graded and that it is on its way back to you?

Yes. The grades were sent ahead of the shipment

Sorry to be a party pooper, my guess is that it's a typo on the grade report that was sent to you. I've heard of instances when they mix up PF with the grade, but we will see when you get the coin in hand. I hope it really is proof, that would be amazing!

I know. I thought about that possibility. That's why I say "I'll believe it when I see it"

I would think that a 20 coin would be quite difficult to prove as being a proof unless it was a proof only variety and that is not the case here. I suspect a VF-20 not a PF-20.
