Hi, I am collecting 2009 and 2011 coins for my son and daughter as they were born in these years.
The coins go in to seperate containers which cannot be open so not sure how much there is for 2009 but I'm guessing theres well £50 now, one thing I do know is that there isn't a 2009 50 pence piece, cannot seem to find one anywhere, so I'm asking you guys if anyone knows where I can get one from?
Its ironic that the only 2011 coins I have are 10 2011 50 pence pieces which I managed to get 3 of last year.
Hope someone can help.
Rest in Peace

to CCF!

£, eh? Consider adding non-UK coins to those containers. You may need to visit coin shops in your area to find 2009 and 2011 coins close by, but you should find many collectors who belong to CCF with whom you can trade coins. Keep in mind the minimum forum post requirements before you start soliciting trades, though.

gherring1, I'm confused. What exactly do these look like? From this offering, somethings screwy.
Why the over-doing it on the glee on the faces? Is this an inside joke? http://cgi.ebay.com/2009-50p-London...em1c1cd9b10b

I moved your topic to the United Kingdom (Great Britain) Coins forum where you should be able to find an answer.

You can buy mint sets where the coins will be shiney and uncirculated and you will get the 50p that what you want. They have baby sets too which can be nice if you like that sort of thing!

Royal Mint did not issue 50 pence coins that were part of the Royal Shield design in 2009 or 2010 according to the mintage figures ending on the 31st of Dec 2010 and it looks like 2011 will be a repeat.

This is why I purchased a 2010 mint set from The Royal Mint for my grandson when he was born last year.

You probably have some of the various Olympic 2011 sporting series 50 pence and some of the 2010 Girl Guides 50 pence coins.

I don't think the OP is looking at this from a numismatic "coin" point of view - but from a "collect some money for the kids" point of view and wondering why some of the denominations seem not to be available.
