I got this 1886 Morgan the other day off a bid wall the other day for a little over $60.

I liked it because it is in an ANA holder.

I saw some earlier posts that discussed these holders and I wondered if there is any new info.

ANA used holders some time between 1989 and 1990. Is there any new info to pin point that more accurately?

Is there a population report for ANA holders?

Some of the posts indicated there always seemed to be toned coins in the ANA holders. Did the holders cause or contribute to the toning?

Any other new info about ANA holders would be appreciated.

Here's the coin.

$150? That must be a sticker from the eighties!

I don't have any info on ANA holders, but that is a nice coin.

That is a first generation ANACS holder (ANACS 11). They started using that holder around December of 1989. (Before that time ANACS used photocertificates 1972 - late 1989). ANACS was sold to Amos Press in February of 1990 and these slabs were used for a little while longer until Amos Press could have their own hologram developed. So this slab was in use from around Dec 1989 to possibly May of 1990.

You've got a great Morgan mint state coin there Las Vegas Larry! I am glad that Conder101 gave you the rundown on ANACS because I only started seriously collecting coins in 2007. I would've had no clue at all about what kind of holders ANACS used and when they did. Actually I'm kind of impressed that Conder101 had that precise information. Anyway, congratulations on your new addition to your collection.
