I am not sure die wear or over polishing could make these letters that far apart.

It could be circulation damage. Note the distorted LI on your coin. It's not a doubled die.

Coop,

I had no thoughts of DDO on this one. Circulation damage? That is interesting. If so, how? I was leaning towards over polishing. If that is what it was, then they REALLY over polished.

Common. As the die wears the L migrates toward the rim.

Personally, I'm finding the rim more interesting than the L. The strike wasn't centered so I would have to guess a loose collar.
