Hey group!

I'm curious about the way to measure/notate the rotation of a coin's reverse. I was trying to convince someone at a show that the most a coin's reverse could be rotated from the obverse is 180 degrees, taking it from coin orientation to medal orientation. You would also indicate whether it was a clockwise (CW) rotation to the right or a counter-clockwise (CCW) orientation to the left, up to 180 degrees. He was also having difficulty understanding that if the reverse was rotated 360 degrees it would be right back where it was in a coin orientation.

He was starting to confuse me towards the end. I was trying to point out that his large cent was not rotated 355 degrees but only a 5 degrees rotation CCW. Which with large cents and many other coins is probably within tolerance.

Any other way to explain this or any other way to measure? Am I missing something?

KK

Were you arguing with Jason Kidd by any chance?

I'd go with your explanation.

what if the obverse is rotated? another argument.....

either of you can be right, but its impossible to tell.

the the obv/reverse get rotated 355 degrees or the the obv/reverse get rotated the other way 5 degrees? the world will never know.
