Perhaps the scratches were obscured by a layer of easily removed grime? Then you were not the one that committed the original crime.

If I were you, I'd rub it a bit more & see if I could get 3 wishes and maybe use one to wish for an MS one.

Hey, if the scratches were there under the grime (and they were), then just put grime back on it. Problem solved.
