Well I went to another estate auction today. Was really there for the house and land but there were a lot of gold and silver coins that were to be sold. 1/10oz gold eagles were going for $250 and up. they sold 2 rolls of 40% halves for $275 each. Highly polished Walkers sold for $25 each. But the best sale of all was the 50 or so Morgans and Peace dollars that were on the block. They had a VG8 1890CC and a G4 1894O. The rest were common dates. The first round of bidding went to $425! The high bidder picked 4, The 90CC and 3 others and the back up bidder picked 2 AU/BU 1921 Morgans at that price. The second round of bidding ended up at $150 where the rest of the Dollar coins were picked over by those who were afraid they would not get one at such a great price. I am totally amazed at how high coins go around here at auction these days. I was buying Morgans for 10 bucks each three years ago and maybe had one other person bidding against me. Have the uninformed gone completely insane?

that is that silver price making Morgans go crazy. I watch a lot of online auctions on proxibid sometimes try to win some stuff but most common G Morgans go for $35 at the lowest and up. And if it is a MS Morgan def look at $70 plus. It is crazy on what people bet on sometimes. Plus you have to add in shipping and the auction fee which has gotten me slowly away from the online thing. Usually isn't worth the money after all the fee's.

To add something I was actually lucky and sold most of my Morgans because I needed money at the time about 4 months ago. I had 10 Morgans a couple MS's but the others just common Morgans for about $500 bucks on ebay.

A LOT of people do not know the history & think because they are old it makes them worth more. Also, the belief that they are 1 oz. of silver!

I think that here in my area the majority of people are clueless about coins. What you stated is very true, at least here in eastern N.C. I have witnessed prices realized at local auctions steadily climb into the stratosphere. They also had a bag ($1.13) worth of common Wheat's that sold for $40, I just shook my head and walked away from the table. Sad thing is Items that were of high value sold very cheap. The wife picked up a Capodimonte vase for $50, value is around $600. She is still over that purchase.
