Found this in a batch of pennies yesterday. The retained struck through is a strip of copper:

Very nice. Always enjoy seeing your interesting finds, care to say how many rolls you search per month?

Very nice find. Looks a lot like a struck-through-wire error. Steel brushes have been known to be used to keep the press parts clean. Just out of curiousity I would check if the retained bit is magnetic - it may have rusted to a brown color.

This is the second one I've come across. The piece that is embedded looks to be a strip of copper. Non-magnetic.
