Hi Folks
Came across this commemorative coin and was curious about the grade. I know scans are not the best way to show it but that is all I have access to. The coin has no dings or gouges that I can see. Also are these known for weak strikes. Some areas appear weak and does not look like it was caused by wear. Any info would be appreciated.Question-Concerning-1925-Stone-Mountain-Commemorative

Typically on the obverse Lee's elbow and leg are the first places to look for wear on the reverse look for wear on the eagles breast. Its difficult to tell in the scanned image, the elbow doesn't look to bad but the leg seems to perhaps show signs of wear. Same on the eagles breast could be slight wear but its really hard to tell with in the scanned image. There are a little over 1.3 Mil of these distributed and are pretty much readily available in all grades. I recently purchased 1 very similiar that I gave $41.00 for at auction. I know on ebay a decent one will sell for $65 or better but rearely if ever over $100. Book says MS-63 goes for $80. It is a nice looking coin. I bought mine to hold on to not sell, hopefully you did too. Enjoy your coin it looks good to me I'd be proud to have it in my collection!

I like the Stone Mountain Commemorative. I purchased one last year, and have a stock photo as my avatar.

Nice looking coin ... but not possible to offer a grade opinion based on those scans.

For sure AU something at least ... possibly even MS.

You need to judge by eye ... looking for any signs of wear which will show up as breaks in the original mint luster as you view the coin in hand.

It's a great looking coin and one most of us would be pleased to have.

It's a custom avatar. Susanlynn9 (aka Forum Mom) made it for me from a stock photo. The pictures I took of my coin never came out right.
