I was just looking through ebay and found this 1914-S Barber quarter graded by PCGS and thought it looked under-graded, does anyone else think that to, or is it just me? When I compare the coin to the same grade on PCGS PhotoGrade (I am new to the series) it looks like it has the same amount of detail as a VG-10 or F-12.

Here is the coin "in question" http://cgi.ebay.com/PCGS-G-06-1914-...em1e64ef2554

It may be a little conservative at G06, but it doesn't look VG10 or F12 to me. In general, 3 total letters in LIBERTY need to be visible to reach VG08. This coin looks close to that, but it could be that the T is not complete. It is hard to tell from the photos. To make F12, all of the letters in LIBERTY have to be at least partially visible (usually the "ER" will be weak or incomplete in F12.)

Anyway, the coin in question is definitely a high end G6 coin and it is a semi-key date.

I was actually looking at that one too. Very nice for the grade, I agree it could make VG8, but not 10.

It's VG-8 in my opinion, netted down for that scratch on the cap IMO.

If you don't consider the shield on the reverse, the Liberty on the obverse, The details look VG-8. Ther is that scratch on the cap. I think all considered PCGS got it right. Now thats just my opinion. I don't know Canadian Banknotes, You may break it out resubmit and it could, I think< come back as VG-8

I agree with VG8. Maybe the reverse is a little weaker than VG8 because of some merging into the rims, leading PCGS to go with G6?
