How can you tell the diferanc between a 1940 kg and a 1940 penny.
They both look the same to my untrained eye.

It's not technically "1940 KG", it's "1940 K.G". Notice the dot.

All "kangaroo" pennies and halfpennies have the "KG" designer's initials on them. The mintmark for Perth, on some 1940 and 1941 pennies, is a small dot in between the K and G.

If you're looking at a 1940 or 1941 penny and saying to yourself, "darned if I can see the KG on this coin anywhere, let alone if there's supposed to be a dot in between them", then you're not alone. Perth mint officials apparently thought so too, because sometime during 1941, they made the mintmark larger and moved it to a more prominent location, after the "Y".

Don't pay 1940 K.G money for a 1940 or 1941 penny just because you can read "KG" on it. You also need to be able to see the dot for it to count.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Thanks for the info .
Now I know what to look for.
The only trouble is I'm struggling to see the KG let alone a minute dot in between them
