And you know the pre-33 gold have a different AGW than their modern counterparts, right? I see you have a high post count, so I'm assuming you knew this. If so, please don't take offense. I only just recently learned this as I had just assumed it was always the same.

For general info, most "old" gold fits the 900 fine pattern with the amount of gold = to $20.67 an ounce. For thumbnail calculations, the 3.35% shortage is ignored.

The AGE were designed to compete with the krand, and not only have a different AGW, but are the same purity (22k), color and dimensions as the krand.

To make sure the AGE got off to a good start, the US banned importation of krands a few months before, citing apartheid, which was 100% BS, since you could import all the 100 oz SA bars you wanted.

Once AGE were established, the ban was conveniently lifted.

Yeah, that excuse never made any sense to me back then. It seemed to me that since most of the gold miners in S. Africa were blacks, refusing to buy the product of their labors would only harm the miners... supposedly, the very people that the so-called anti-apartheid policy sought to help. :-/

Like ebay, the government never lies. It's just taken the Internet for people to compare notes and see where their "truth" makes no sense.
