Hi I am looking for an opinion of the coin. The clad is missing on part of it and the copper(?) is showing thru. The copper(?) is part of the stamp. This coin has not been modified.

What would you call this type of error? Is there any value to this coin?

Sorry for the bad photo its the best I can do.

Hi Brett

Its very hard to tell whats up with your coin,, its possible that a portion of the clad layer is missing either as an error or as damage from various types of things which can be done to remove the clad layer.

we will need clear pics or both sides of the coin to try and figure out which your coin is.

Thanks Rick for the reply... I cant get a better picture at the moment its the best my camera will do. (Its time for a new camera).

I will try to describe in more detail. The clad is definitely missing on the one side only. There is a clear stamp (I can see all the detail). It does look like there is a clip on the bottom left side. The other side of the coin looks normal.

I have been collecting coins of and on for 11-12 years but I collect foreign coins I don't know a whole lot about US coins.

That is becoming a common type of error since we started with the clad types of coins. Some are actually just what you see, a coin with some or most or all of the outer layer missing. However, there are some real jokers out there that like to acid dip coins to remove some of the outer layer and put back into circulation. Without a better photo, to hard to tell. Tryh taking the photos outdoors on a dark surface. You may get better results.
