I was going through some change today and look what I found! It's a Westward Ho nickel (ocean view) and its missing the 5. It seems like a mint error as it doesn't seem like there is any trace of a 5. I scanned this under high resolution as well and I don't see anything that would indicated someone did this to the coin. Your thoughts?

The scan doesn't even seem to show the 5 , it is quite faint

There is a trace of the 5. It's a Grease Filled Die. No extra value.

I've got the mate to this coin. It's missing the 5, plus most of the mint-mark, part of "Liberty" and the last "T" in "TRUST". I'll post a picture later if I still have it (might have already gotten rolled up and dumped).

I agree with the above. As for no extra value...well..I keep them. So I guess I value them. I have one with very very faint UNUM on the back.

Struck through grease, if a large portion of the coin is missing due to it they bring premiums but minor ones like that rarely do, though I'm sure someone might buy it on ebay for under a buck

For a buck or two I would rather keep it. I'm not much for collecting error coins and it bugged me that so many Lincoln albums included a 55 double die

captainfwiffo's coin shows more blockage. It is actually a larger area on the coin when you look closer. The last T on TRUST is missing and parts of LIBERTY and ther is even a wave above the 2 on 2005. But even with this knowledge it doesn't improve the value any. But they look neat.

I see lots of 2005 and some newer ones with "triangles" of grease like that. I kept that one, but most of them I toss back. I usually only keep the Grease Filled Dies where there are big chunks of the design missing, like whole words or big chunks of devices, but even those are common.
