Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums but have been interested in currency for a couple of years making smaller purchases here and there looking for deals.

As the title suggests I made a couple of ebay purchases and I was looking for other opinions on whether you think these were good deals.

FRB of Boston (4,000 Notes Made) $100 Star Note w/ Presentation Case

link: http://cgi.ebay.com/190495426782

Designs in Motion Set (2001 & 2004):

http://cgi.ebay.com/380353505287 (0000689) is the serial # for both notes.

I paid $145 shipped for the star note, and $70 for the set (I figured this might be good as I got it for half price compared to the BEP store)

Thought?

First off

to the forum!

Nice low run star note you have there. I actually don't currently collect any of the BEP sets or special prints, but am not opposed to doing so of course. I was waiting for someone to chime in that does, but figured I would respond since they haven't yet.

One thing I noticed was that the top serial number on the top twenty looks as though there was an obstruction of some type, perhaps a hair or a fiber.

Both those strike me as manufactured rarities, which is why you were able to but one for half of issue. There just aren't that many collectors of them.

A few thousand sounds rare, but you can buy national currency with only a handful known for less money, or pretty horseblankets.

Thanks for the responses Nickelback and biggfredd.

I was glad to see the $100 star note had a pretty low run of 320,000. The note itself is also flawless and has bright coloring for being a 1999 series. Could anyone take a guess at how much this could be worth in a few months? I paid $145 for this.

The designs in motion set doesn't really seem special except for the slightly low/matching serial numbers. I honestly just got it cause it comes with a nice leather case and cause it was discounted 50%. I think a year or two down the road it could possibly be worth a bit more. Time will tell though.

My next possible purchase is a 1996 Crisp UNC $50 Star note, pretty low serial # too. I've bidded $70 and its a few hours from ending so hopefully I will win it. $70 shipped sounds like a nice deal to me...thoughts?

Forgot to mention: I saw that mark too Nickelman - I'm hoping that's from the actual case rather than the note. Luckily the seller has a pretty flexible return policy.
