Poll Question
*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Here's one for all you guestimaters, Bullion worshipper's, Wall Street junkies, and the others that are just plain confused about it all! What value will the price of .9999 Gold/ounce be on December 31,2011 in U.S. dollars?

I guessed $1737.67! This is not a contest :) I do think there is much room for an upward trend. I am thinking close to $1750. $2000 by 2/2012 would not surprise me.

$ 2450/oz. only if the debt ceiling issue is resolved and inflation resumes at a moderately normal pace compared to past historical results

I'm guessing $1700. I think it will continue it's upward trend slowly and steadily, with a few pullbacks in between.

I agree, Hawk, and I also voted for $1800 or thereabouts. I don't think that we have seen the end of the US or European debt / spending problems. Both of these will drive more people into the PM market and push prices higher. The farther out we look at this, the higher the probability of increased PM prices seems to be. I mean, just think... in 2001, gold was selling for $260 per oz. Very few people then thought that gold prices would sextuple in less than 10 years. But they did! If gold were to do the same thing over the next 10 years, a lot of people will be kicking themselves for not buying that "cheap" $1500 per oz. gold!

Im thinking that nuclear transfusion and mining in the asteroid belt will someday make it dirt cheap

What you are really asking here is: 'What is the next major or minor calamitous event that is going to affect the gold price, and when will it happen?'
The only reasoned way to predict the price is to look at a trend line on the gold price graph, then guesstimate the price. Even I was fool enough to do that in the poll.
Even with this system, you have only two choices that are available to to you to correctly predict the gold price.
Yours and Buckley's.

I have a feeling by the time we starting mining on asteroids, we will all have long since past, and someone else will be grinning like a possum with all our stashes, up until that prediction pans out anyway, lol....

Since this is the time of year that gold usually falls back I call for $1800.
