Hi All. Newbie here trying to understand what we may have. This coin was purchased in 1990 and was rated as "Select BU" by the seller to my father-in law. That rating doesn't seem to make sense these days. Opinions on how this equates to the "MS" ratings that I'm seeing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

ms 60 would be the lowest grade in BU. Select would suggest higher than MS 60. I grade your coin MS 63.

the cheek and field is really clean, id give this a high end 64, I dont think it has enough in it to get a 65, though.

Thanks for offering your evaluations.

I checked the 2011 Red Book and there's a huge difference between 64 & 65 and a decent one between 63 & 64. Is there another resource to determine "high" valuations within a certain grade? Also, what are thoughts on getting this coin officially graded/slabbed?

Thanks again!

Tony

The fields do look really clean. Does it have that washed out appearance in hand or is it just the photos? You also have some nice clashing at the neck and to outside the left wing on the reverse. Check VAM World for vamming.

No, it looks really nice live - the image is just from a point and shoot and the lighting wasn't the best. I'll check out VAM. Thanks a lot!

I know what you mean. I can't seem to get the chest feathers to show well on the image but they well defined.

Took 12 weeks to get the grading done through a local dealer but FINALLY got it back today. Kind of disappointing but about where you'd expect - MS62 (I as hoping for a 63 at least). I didn't see any VAM that would relate so didn't have them check. Was that a mistake?

Anyway, thanks a lot for the input!
