Hey guys, need to know grade and approx value of this coin. It has been cleaned. It was a old cleaning, looks to be a light dip. There is still luster, VERY faint cartwheel. Also, Looks like some wiping in the field, on the right side or the OBV. Don't see any wiping on the REV. Took pictures with different filters and lighting. IMO XF-45 cleaned, 2012 RedBook is 900 in xf-40; sept issue of coin prices puts it at 1350 in xf-40; my educated guess is to split the difference and call it approx. 1100 if problem free...

So would 320 be a fair price?

I think that's a great deal The coin still looks attractive to me, dipped wiped or whatever. Great detail!

Well glad to know I got a good deal then. I just picked it up earlier today.
I absolutely love the character of this coin, but felt that my admiration was clouding my judgment.
Thanks for the reassurance guys.
What's the rule of thumb for pricing cleaned coins.(like above, not harshly cleaned) Half graded value, 2 grades lower, half way between next grade?

I think it's more of a sliding scale based on the severity of the cleaning, how much of the original surface was removed, and the overall attractiveness of the coin afterward. I certainly think your coin would be affected less price wise by the cleaning than many other coins I've seen. Still a very nice piece!

Yea. I think I'm really glad I picked it up. I would probably kick myself in a year if I hadnt.
I try to keep myself from having "the one that got away" stories.

Maybe it's just me, but if it has been cleaned properly and if it can retone and look normal, I don't mind having it in my collection. Particularly when there's only 116,000 available of this coin type in the entire world. I would consider myself completely lucky to edge out all the other millions of US Coin collectors in the world that don't get to have one of these and would show this coin proudly.

No need to apologize for the cleaning. It is fairly light and not too distracting. Eye appeal of the piece is great. You have a great half dollar there!

Oh, by the way, I would say at least AU-50 details.

Yea. I asked susan to make this my new avatar. Thanks for making me feel better about this purchase. I really was fighting myself, but I knew I would regret it if I didnt. Quote: And the obverse & reverse die cracks are CRAZY! I know right! Thats why I couldn't pass it up. of the 116,000 minted, that probably what, 4 die pairs over its life? Of those, how many coins are able to be minted with that much deterioration before the die crumbles? I feel like this is a 1-10,000 coin.
