Now that I've all my coins in albums I'm going back to see whats missing. I have all the Sac dollars since 2000 in mint & proofs. Since in 05 & 06 they made the frosted mint sets do I have to purchase P & Ds from a mint roll to have a complete set? I believe I read on this forum that mint roll coins have less dings & scratches than those from a mint bag.

Hi stmpcol
bags may see a little more movement of the coins, but even bank rolls have been through several moves and machines by the time they are delivered.
I think they are pretty much the same.

I just completed by Sacagawea set, in a Dansco album, both Uncirculated and Proof.
A very nice looking set.

I agree Gary, to bad they don't hold up well in circulation. Some of the ones I've received in change look like overgrown brown pennys.

In response to stmpcol's question, I don't know how the album makers will handle it, but in my opinion the "satin finish" coins in the current usmint sets since 2005 are not the same as the uncirculateds you get from rolls, bags, or banks. So to have a truly complete set, one would have to have proofs, satin finished uncs, and business strike uncs.
Edited: comment added: This applies to all circulating denominations, not just the $.

I never bought an album, but you guys have giving me the perfect idea for my 10 year old's Christmas Gift. I will buy her a Dansco Album PDS for the Sac's. Are Dansco Album's the Best? I want a real quality product. I have all the coins in mint and proof sets already so We will have to go and bust them out. I did see a complete pd set for around 30 bucks on ebay so I may go that way for those instead of breaking apart mint sets. Great idea and I think I also get her the state Quater pdss Album as well since I be breaking open some proof sets. oops now I have an extra set of sac proofs, guess I'll need another album for the boy in my wife's belly. Thanks for the idea and I'm sure the set in the album looks fantastic.

For a complete, complete set, don't you still need to have one of the coins they put the special finish on when they payed off the designer of the coin with dollar coins. These don't come easy or often found for sale. But I guess it all depends on what you are calling 'complete'.

Whats up with a special finish OldDan, don't remember seeing anything like that on the forum? But I seem to remember a mention of a Cheerios dollar. Same thing?

There's a Goodacre Finish coin that is slabbed by ICG and that some people consider to be in a complete set (PCGS included). They're really expensive though, so most people just leave it out. There's also a Cheerios Sackie that was handed out in boxes of Cheerios when the coins first came out. These, on the other hand, are considered a variety (I think) so most people just leave it out.

The Goodacre finish is NOT part of the Sackie series. They were never released into circulation or made with that finish as a proof. I can tell you one thing for certain! I never dreamed the Sackie set would increase in value they way they have in just 7 short years. The PROOFS are the key so make sure you get them NOW! I have my Sackies in a Dansco Deluxe Album and they all look as good as the day I put them in! I might also mention, for those of you who don't know, the Sackies MUST continue to be struck during the years of the Presidential dollars so the sets will continue and they will be available from the mint and be included in the mint sets and proof sets UNLESS Congress rewrites the law to halt their production. There is a movement to do so but at this time the Sackie is still a go!!!
