I posted this on the CU forums, I was shocked at how many people thought this was graded F12-F15. Even a couple who have said these seen ones like this in VF slabs! Wow, I guess this coin can fall hard to grade-flation. There are treasures to be found in the lower tier slabs. I may have to crack this one out and submit to a different TPG. Compare mine to this PCGS F-15.

Before I posted my guesstimate, I looked at a dozen PCGS slabs in F12. There were many with less detail than your coin.

I stated F12 and still stand by that. I can see how they gave it a VG10. They were just being conservative as to LIBERTY.

The problem with collecting keys for me though, is now that I have the biggest key, I may be more easily convinced to try and complete a set...;-P decisions, decisions...

I recommend it John! I have a Dansco set of these going with the 1877,1871,1872,1874 & 08-S out of the way. The 1866-1870 are also going to cost you a little. I'm making it easy and staying away from the varieties, just a date set.
The 1909-S should also be certified. Lots of added S mm's.

I may have an extra IHC Dansco brand new in my cabinet. Let me get home and look John

Hey Dave! PM me if you have that Dansco(I need one)! Yeah, I have been looking at certified 1909-s too....that would probably be the next target(though it won't be for a little while since I'm broke now..lol). I'm kind of with you though, I like to get the keys first.

Ah, I thought it was an IHC Dansco John. Turns out, it was a Liberty nickel Dansco brand new. I guess I bought it thinking I was going to start that set :o
Are you going to Long Beach in September? If not, I can always pick one up for you :)
That 09-S is on my list too, probably a VG-F example. I will be picky on this one.

Thanks for looking Dave! I had not planned on going, but I should look into that. I received the coin, and it is very nice in hand. The pictures represent it well. The liberty is weak, but I can still make out shadows of most of the letters. What I really like about it is the fact that the upper obverse rim is strong, as it appears weak on most other examples. The surfaces are VERY pristine for the grade The only bummer part is the slab is scratched all over the place. I can only make out a few small marks even under the glass. I think I may have to bust this out of the ICG slab and send it to another TPG. Here is another F-15 from NGC, I don't know how they graded it this high...

Here is one on the opposite side. This coin is gorgeous although, I personally do not care for proof coins. I like the biz strikes
Not to say this coin is just incredible
Oh yeah, Rare Coin Wholesalers with 4 offers, all declined
