I sent some coins through a dealer to NGC and got expected or better grades with some coins that I submitted. I registered with NGC recently and received 5 coupons for submission. I was wondering if I should save it for some coins that I don't care about and submit the coins I care about through a dealer? I am not sure how NGC treats a coin from a dealer vs an individual. Thoughts?

Doesn't matter. They enter the grading room anonymously with no bias.

Thanks for your response.

I have read so many articles about how the TPG's are over grading coins from big dealers that submit tons of coins in order to keep them continuing to do business with them. That's why I wanted to make sure my coins don't get under-graded for some weird reason they might have.

I suspect that large TPGS's have sufficient quantities of workers that most would not know you from the largest dealer or collector on Earth. And if you ever worked in any place where there is a large turnover in merchandise, you would know eventually you just no longer think about who it is for, where it is going, why it is what it is anyway. I'm sure your submittal is just one of lots and lots and lots.

With just a small bit of surfing through here it really does give one the feeling that dealers got better deals...and without any of us actually being in the place where they grade coins we don't actually know that they are anonymous. I mean they could come in color coded bins, or they could do commercial work during set hours and then do individuals. Lots and lots of ways to do it. I got out of being a Police Detective because of the way that Money always walked. Then got into Retail, trust me, Big Money always gets the best treatment. Always. Remember these are Merchants. There Job is to make money, not be a boon to the Hobby. I would bet most of them could care less about coins...except as a way of make themselves rich. Just my Two Cents.

Grading is subjective. Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. If you are a dealer submitting a hozillion coins at a time, it can be expected that you'll get some "windshield" coins, and here on the Internet we're not talking about the "bug" coins they get back.

I see as many satisfactory results (to the submitter) on this forum as I do unsatisfactory ones. Regardless of whether we agree with the results or not - it's rare to see a genuinely gradable photograph here - the pattern seems tied to the overall experience of the submitter.

I used to believe that also until I sent some of my coins in and got a much lower grade than expected and talked to an online dealer friend from another forum and sent him my coins and he submitted them and they came back 2 grades higher. Maybe mine went through on a bad day and the dealers went through on a good one but the 2 grades higher thing was enough for me to question it from now on

I think you may have had some graders with headaches that day or wife problems...
I'm not entirely sure. I just know that most coins are received, inputed, sent to grading room anonymously, at least that's what my knowledge is.
If there was a bias and that was proven, can you imagine what it would do to the slab world and coin market? How many people trust the grade on the holder anyway? It's all subjective.
