Good morning all. I was looking at the pictures posted on the Coin Photography section of the forum and the Franklin Scientist proof dollar caught my eye. It's absolutely beautiful, I have to have one of these coins! What do you think would be a fair price to pay for one?

The scientist proof and the founding father proof can be found raw in my area for about $65-80 each raw. The founding father proof seems to get the higher price.

Slabbed, in PF69 I've seen them for $140-180 each and at PF70 $195-225 each. The slabs have jumped locally about $10-15 each in the last 3 weeks.

I'd be interested to see what prices are in other areas of the US.

the one you saw in the photo was probably mine, it is a PF70 graded by NGC and although I do not have any CDN (dealer to dealer)price to go by I do have numismedia price and that is $275.00

OOPs! I just found an old CDN sheet I have here, it lists the scientist proof (ungraded) as 60-64 dollars

Thanks for the direction guys, I'm going to pick one up. Brian, it was your coin I was admiring. It's a gorgeous piece and it's so mirror like, I can actually see your reflection snapping the shot!

yes it is hard to get a good picture of the coin because of that fact, when you get close enough to actually see the mirrors it shows your finger and the camera lens in the coin, took awhile trying to get it and finally I just gave up and went with what I had. The founding father is beautiful as well but it has a frosted circle around the rim section with mirror fields between that and the portrait, it is alot easier to picture but doesn't quite have the pop the scientist has when you look at it. here is a picture of Founding Father

Here's my example of Mr. Franklin, won in the contest this summer. This is my first attempt at imaging a proof. The coin is not flawless, but I would not surrender it for a box of MS70's.

Nice pick-ups. I was really considering on buying one some time ago, but passed and instead put the money towards my new capped bust half. Can't say I'm regretting it one bit, but seeing all of them now I'm thinking about buying one again!

And I think SuperDave would trade that coin for a 1921 VAM 1X even if it wasn't a 70...

I'd trade my wife and my dog for a VAM-1X.
