That was deep inside my thinking when I bought my metal detector a few months back. After all I live on a farm dating back to 1850. I live in the house and the barn is still used for the beef cattle.

It took me a few hours and attempts to figure out how to use the MD. At first I dug up anything that made a beep.

Do you know how much scrap and junk is in the ground after 160 years. Well that is when I started to learn how to use my MD. SO far I am still looking for my first silver strike. I have found some interesting stuff but mostly just pocket changed.

Tonight I went out for a half hour and found 2 dimes and one penny. The penny was a 1977 so it goes into the copper can but the dimes are all from the 1990's.

So no I haven't hit anything big but some day I just might find a wheatie or some silver, an Indian Head would be cool. At least I have stopped digging up all those pull tabs.

if you don't dig pulltabs and other "junk" signals you probably won't find any gold jewelry or coins either.
What kind of MD is it?

I dig all my targets, especially if I am in an area known for relics. That serves a dual purpose, #1 it gets the trash out so that I can find the good targets. #2 I sell the trash metal for a small profit. What you need to do is to walk around the property and try to imagine you were living there for the last 160 years and think where you would hide your stuff. Also look for out of place rocks or unnatural stacks of rocks that have been there for a long time. Check around the steps of the house and around the edges of buildings and trees. Persistence, Patience, Perseverance.

What I do is, I cherry-pick the silver signals, because if I'm in a new spot, I may not have much time, or, won't be back soon. Later, I can go back and take my time with other signals.
Try a local park for a change, you may be surprised. I've dug 30+ silver just from local parks this year. May not be much to some, but I had to work for those, LOL!
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...

I have a Bounty Quick Silver does that sound right? The problem with the farm is there is a lot a metal junk in the ground.

I search around all the old trees thinking maybe I would get lucky.
