appears to be a dug coin. I agree key or not I won't buy a problem coin.

The reverse looks like the surface of the moon! I'm not sure there's enough detail to even confirm authenticity. To quote Rick Snow..."There is no price too cheap for a problem coin."

I do own a couple problem key date coins but, the problems are miniscule compared to this. This is just way too destroyed to even be collectible IMO.

Ah, your right :-) I rescued a 1908-S IHC that has small pits all over it, in fact, it's filling that hole in my Dansco for now :o I would have rescued this one too if the price was right :P

Ouch. But I'd spend $50 if it was a BIN

At least the '77 is visible and plain to see, if it was just the '18' it's anybody's guess as to which of the '70's IHC it is, I usually love them either as FR-2/AG-3 or BU BN/RB, but this coin is too damaged for my low grade set. It would be a nice filler for someone though.

Quote: The reverse looks like the surface of the moon! Actually I've seen photos of the Moon that looked a lot nicer than that coin. Presently 13 bids and up to $136.27? I wonder if the seller has a lot of friends placing those bets.

Very odd how the reverse rim just disappears and those raised lumps. Definitely suspect. What is the buyer going to do with it? Does not look like it will fit in a Dansco slot.

I can see the appeal of filling those holes with genuine coins, even if they are problem examples. For the right price of course.

Whoever bought could easily sell it again and get about the smae price; I would buy that coin if I was really desperate...

Wow! I CAN NOT believe ANYONE would spend that much on such a horrible coin.
