I last month (June 20), I purchased 50 silver dimes on ebay and used Paypal for the payment. The dimes never arrived and the selling did not use tracking so there is no way of knowing what happened. The seller and I e-mailed each other to give enough time for them to arrive but ultimately we decided last week that I would be refunded the sale. That has not happened and I have e-mailed him a few times since so I need to initiate a dispute. Which organization would be better off contacting: Paypal or ebay? Any insights on how you have handled this in the past are appreciated - this is the first time I find myself in this situation!

I've never filed a dispute so I can't help there. I'd hold off leaving feedback until its over and keep contacting the seller telling him that you haven't gotten the refund yet.

Open a dispute with ebay, you'll need the auction number and I hope you corresponded through ebay's message systen as they can see your messages which will help your claim.

I did use ebay's mail system for all of my correspondences - that was in part to the members here who use ebay and clued me in on how important it is to use. I have not entered feedback yet - will do so when this situation is resolved...

You need to open up a case as soon as possible because you only have 45 days from the sale date to open one. When a case is opened ebay takes the money out of the sellers account and puts a hold on it. When ebay investigates, and if the seller cannot provide proof of shipment, they should refund you the money. It may take some time though. I had a seller sell me a fake awhile ago and I shipped it back. The seller then told me she was snowed in and couldn't see if she got the package back. At the time it was almost the 45th day after the auction had ended. Then I checked her feedback, the items she sold recently were shipped and the buyer left feedback already within the time she was claiming she was snowed in. Opened a case against her and uploaded all the info about her lying about she was snowed in. Got my money back the next day.

Now that ebay owns PayPal, it's easier to get your money back. File a claim ASAP though, that 45 days goes back quickly! Good luck!

Thanks for the link - went that route (I was trying to figure out how to do it through ebay's site but was not getting anywhere). Have y'all noticed that for the most part they don't trust you to type the problem? Guess it is easier for their system.

Holy cow! The refund has been posted!! They refunded everything including shipping. Just got an e-mail from seller asking why I did not reply to message from last week - luckily I did through the ebay e-mail system. Not sure why they did not reply but at least we are finished.

Glad to hear that you got your money back Too bad you didn't get the coins though, since silver is up from that date.

I had the package arrive only to find that there was a rip in the back of the package. The mint set I bought was gone. I had to figure out which person I bought it from, once that was accomplished, I corresponded with her and ask that ship items more securely and not to worry about this incident as I filed a claim with the post office. Three days later, out of the goodness of her heart, she sent me a replacement for free. I have done alot of business with that lady over the past six months. There are good sellers on ebay, you just have to find them.
