I just put down a good amount of money for a 1874 CC gold eagle in VF ish condition, the price is $1100. Is that a good price? and If anybody has the coin facts from pcgs, do you know the population?

115,874 was the original mintage. Fairly low for that year. I don't know about PCGS population but you would need a grade number to be precise. Sounds like a pretty good price for a half ounce of Carson City gold.

That is a tremendous price - the only Heritage result this year was $2530 for a PCGS VF35. In fact, it's a good enough price to make me curious as to the quality of the coin and/or the seller. Not sure where you got your number, junior, but mintage was 16,767 - not much but the highest Carson City total until 1890. PCGS Pop in 35 is 17/96 as of Jan.'11.

Well its a very reputable store around here, they've never ripped me off and always have good prices on stuff. I'm not sure if they've updated the price of the coin at all lately because its been there for a while at the same price. I just decided to put money down on it so I could get it. I'll add pics once Its in my hands, another example of their great prices is that they sold me a 1844 O half eagle for $435 in VF. $435 is about the value of the gold in the coin and I believe I'm right in saying its worth more than that, a 1834 classic head half eagle for $465 in VF. And yes I know I buy a lot of VF coins, something about the worn luster that draws me in

Sounds like some great prices. I know what you mean about the mid level grade gold. I once had an 1850 Moffat & Co. $5 that was VF20. I loved the eye-appeal!

I went back in today to put down some more money and the owner of the place and I took a look at the coin, and he said " I just realized that we're selling this to you for only 250 or so over melt price, Oh well" I've been in enough to help them make their money back in some other way
