Thanks for the info. That's about what I expected on the Morgan but I'm somewhat surprised at the Half Dime price. I've been trying to find sales records online with limited success. The last one Heritage auctioned was back in January 2010. It was an Anacs G4 that sold for around $130.....& Heritage stated in the listing that wholesale was around $120.

I'd say the graysheet for the Half Dime is way off. Are you sure you weren't looking at the 1838-O dime?

Here's what RedBook has on the 38-O Half Dime in G:
2005: $75
2007: $80
2008: $85

I don't have a newer one, but typically RedBook is very high and I personally never pay RedBook prices for coins. Extrapolating, I'd guess RedBook has the coin at $95-100 in 2011-12, which would be close to retail. Could be that there are not enough data and transactions on this coin for the prices to even be accurate- actual sale price could be higher due to scarcity and demand.

I see coins always go over RedBook. For the sole reason. More than 1 person needs the coin. Its all about the availability at the time.

I have to agree with both parts of this statement. I've always considered anything priced at RedBook prices to be high retail. When I'm looking to buy for my collection I expect to be able to find coins at 15-30% below their prices.

I recently purchased a collection that had several coins in series that aren't as popular as I'm used to with significantly smaller mintage figures. Very few of these coins seem to be changing hands....& in many cases the actual sales prices I'm seeing on ebay, teletrade & heritage are way above RedBook prices.
