I just purchased these Indians. The 1869/9 is to upgrade my old one. The 1897 is just a really cool variety.

Two very nice varieties! My eyes went straight to the date, then I realized you called it already.
By Snow's grading standards, the 1869 might go higher than VG10....

The first one is a repunched date on the "6" and "9." It was originally thought to be an overdate and thus was incredibly popular, but later it was proven only to be a repunched date. However, it is still very popular and is in many albums. The 1897 as a misplaced date. There is a "1" sticking out of the neck in liberty, a very visible and unique variety.

I actually traded my 1864L for these two coins with Rick Snow. I didn't ask what he thought of the grade, but it look like a very nice VG10 and possibly Fine.

Hehe, the 7 looks like it's got someplace else to be.

Dang it, every time somebody posts a cool coin, I think "oh man, I gotta get me one of those".

That's what I was thinking too, it looked to me more like F12/15.

Nice coins.

I think the 69/69 is F12. Undergraded and a candidate for crack out in my opinion. The 97 is solid G6 but hard to tell with the lighting if a few letters of LIberty are showing. I think 3 partial letters showing is what they are calling VG nowadays- the grading on Indian cents has changed in recent years.

I had a chance to get the 1894/94 at a coin show this weekend for $25, but it was corroded, G at best details, cleaned and the dealer wouldn't budge on the price, so I passed. It was a clear overdate, though. I'm wondering if I should of bought it though, as it is tough to find.
