So my grandfather past back about a month ago and his family history strikes me as interesting so I will share a bit. He was 80 years old. He had three brothers pass back in the old days. One of his brothers caught his wife with another man, and the fellow with her shot him in the stomach an he died. Another was the only to graduate from High school and died shortly after getting a job as a manager in a plant when a crate of steel fell on him. The 3rd past was in Patton's division, and was shot and killed in post war skirmishes two weeks after the war had ended. Most interesting item in this case as well, an old news paper square with a picture and story of his brother who was in Patton's division, what a piece of family history that is....

He had two parents pass, his mother a full blooded Cherokee Indian go to cancer, and his father had hardening of the artery's and had no arms or legs when he finally past....

More recently, his brother Don past one hour before the first plane hit the towers to staff infection, after a surgery he did not even need. Another veteran brother past not long after, as well as his sister which past not long ago to throat cancer, and the oldest as well not long after who was in her 90's. Then my grandfather, and now his sister Dot at 88, is all that is left of that family, nine children total....

Anyhow sorry for the boring fam rant, just always struck me anyhow as an interesting family history. My grandfathers keep sakes was given to my father. A few knives and old zippos and coins and bills....

1. I notice a silver 1 oz Twin tower from 2001, and as some of you may recall, I have six of those from 2001 with the towers on them. My mother got them for 10 bucks each back in 2001 in N.Y., and gave me some then and later. Anyhow, I had forgotten I gave several away to friends an family for Christmas that year, including my grandfather an had forgotten. My father said he would pass it all on to me, so full circle as they say....

2. A most unique 1880 silver Morgan, in pristine condition, but unfortunately it was made into a money clip. The plastic that protects it, has yellowed much in time, and it appears the coin looks golden from what little I could see from behind. You can tell it has been in there for decades, but the front of the coin anyway is reeeeeaaaaal nice....

3. A few pre 64 quarters in good shape....

4. A couple dollars, couple half dollars, Eisenhower 1976, as well as some quarters from the same year. I can't recall, is that a 40% silver year?

5. Some silver note dollars, and fives from 1963, and a 100 mark foreign currency, Asian in nature ,purple and white,as well as another old dollar bill that brings about 150 on ebay he said....

I plan to take the digi camera back down to dads, and take some better pictures, so as to identify anything unknown. I figure the money value of it all is not much, but that is meaningless really, via the sentimental value. But you never know. A Wheat penny as well, and an old rubbed down 1919 Buffalo nickel that can't be worth much at all, like the one I keep in my pocket....

Very interesting family history.

By the way, I moved your post to the main forum, since it does center on numismatics. I chose the main forum since you have a variety of items to discuss.

The uncirculated S-mint Quarter, Half Dollar, and Dollar are 40% silver. The proof S-mint may be 40% silver or regular clad. The silver versions, both proof and circulated, were sold in special three-coin sets.
