Hi all !

After an extensive google search I found a short listing of this coin:
Onza, 1709. Olv. PHILIPPVS. V. D. G. I.SPANIAR.
A cross potent, with arms of Leon and Castile in the
angles, within a circle of pellets. Bev. ET Y N D I A are V M
REX. Two crowned pillars standing in the sea; across
the field, l-8-h | p-v-a | 7-0-9 | ; the whole within a
circle of pellets; above, a crown. 32 mm.; 416 grs.
PI. IX, 4. SILVER.

This unfortunately does not give me much information regarding it's history (I'm not a collector).
How do I call this coin ? Onza 1709 ?
And how do I find out if it's real ?

Thank you !

Hi Kai Ser,

Is it silver or gold?
It looks like this 8 Escudos coin shown at this link.

However, your one in the photo looks pale and the features are ill defined, so maybe it is an attempt to simulate an old piece of treasure.

Yep, sorry to say, but yours is a replica "pirate coin".

Check the rim. If it's like mine, and like numerous others posted here on the forum like this one, there should be an obvious seam line running all the way around, like you can see in the third pic in the thread I linked to.
