I figured I would share a bit of my error collection with you guys! I have collected this series of clashes from different sites, and it has taken a long time to find some with the right year and MM. They are all Philadelphia minted pennies (1984-89). I heard the term jailhouse cents before, so that's what I call em when the pillars are clashed on the front. It's difficult to see the clashes from the pictures, but they are very apparent in hand. 1984 (above liberty, to the left of Abe's head) Image: 1984 jailhouse clash.jpg64.66 KB 1985 (pretty apparent across the middle-top of memorial line visible) Image: 1985 jailhouse clash.jpg65.14 KB 1986 (left of harline, under nose, top of memorial goes thru his head) Image: 1986 jailhouse clash.jpg67.24 KB 1987 (tough to see, but top of memorial visible thru head) Image: 1987 jailhouse clash.jpg73.08 KB 1988 (left of hairline, above liberty) Image: 1988 jailhouse clash.jpg66.82 KB 1989 (across middle, top of memorial visible thru head) Image: 1989 jailhouse clash.jpg65.55 KB Any comments/suggestions are appreciated! Hey madhandles, Great collection! I have been trying to find some of these for years with no luck. Of course being the miser that I am, I am trying to pull them from circulation. Kudos and keep it up. Michael

Mad, I found the below referenced lincoln on another coin forum ! Was bought by hime and then sold as a counterfiet fake by a reputable person. I am not saying yours are just that there is some like yours out there.Be careful. (Quote) I bought this coin while in Baltimore as a counterfeit. I sold it as a counterfeit. It is a counterfeit!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...200049084728

Thanks for the warning mishap, but I have checked each of these coins many times for authenticity. They show no warning signs, and they were purchased from different sources. On the coin the you sent me a link to, the 'clash' or 'doubling' has happened in such a way that there would be a slight deformity of the planchet.

Nice grouping. All are genuine die clashes. Now start working on the other memorial years. You'll find the ones in the late 60s to mid 70s to be easier to locate.

Great die clash piccies. Can see why they've been nicknamed 'jailhouse', very apt description. I've got several die clashed Aussie coins in 4 denominations, some more prominent than others. I may be able to post piccies one day when I get the know how. There doesn't seem to be much Aussie interest in them though. Maybe because I get them from circulation & naturally the coins are a bit dinged. I still love them! I call them 'my babies'.
