It's my understanding, that ICCS will certify problem coins (cleaned, scratched, damaged, etc), without any comment on the holder, for certain dealers who will then dump those problem coins onto unsuspecting customers either on ebay or major auctions like Torex.

I could put together quite an interesting gallery of such ICCS certified "treasures".

Has anyone experienced this with CCCS? In other words, is CCCS more likely to correctly identify problem coins than ICCS? Or should I say, is CCCS less corrupted/corruptible than ICCS?

I haven't seen, or purchased enough CCCS coins to know. I've certainly purchased enough ICCS coins to know they can't be trusted at all.

I like ICCS. I've had lots of coins certified by them. In many cases where both they and I knew something was remiss about a scarce coin they refused to card the coin and sent it back. I've often seen "Cleaned" or "Corrosion" added to an ICCS label. I've been around a long time in the coin market and no one's perfect but ICCS tries hard on most counts. If I had to fault ICCS it would be on the identification of varieties. They don't seem to have a consistent policy. I think CCCS does a good job too. I just don't find their folders as appealling.

Danlos, you state that I.C.C.S. can't be trusted at all, but you constantly buy I.C.C.S. coins on E-bay! + You sell I.C.C.S. coins on E-bay. So what YOU are telling C.C.F. Members is that the I.C.C.S coins YOU are selling on E-bay are perhaps cleaned? Fake? Falsely graded? You are sending mixed messages here. I'm confused about your point of view?

Glenn

Danlos states:"I've certainly purchased enough ICCS coins to know they can't be trusted at all."

Glenn...

ALL ICCS coins carry the risk of being cleaned, fake, falsely graded, etc :). Especially yours ;).

What does that have to do with me buying and selling them? I've gone through a steep learning curve and bought a lot of ICCS coins that I either dont want or collect anymore, have problems, have cut out and sent to other grading companies, will be cutting out, will be selling at Torex with sky high reserves, etc.

There will come a time, when I will not be selling ANY ICCS coins and you'll see some beautiful coins rescued from their ICCS garbage bag, and in nice PCGS and CCCS holders :).

In the meantime, QUIT STALKING ME ON ebay!! ;).

Glenn...you better survey your expensive collection of ICCS certified Vicky quarters and 50 cents :).

Make sure you dont have others with unidentified grey or bald spots like that shady ICCS 1910 AU-58 we were talking about ;)

And dont forget to look on the sides of each coin, for the "made in China" countermark ;).

Danlos, when you're at work someday, I'm going to sneak into your house and steal your I.C.C.S., 1894 half dollar. Yes, the one you turned down my offer on! I also know your house alarm code: 9-5-5-1

This is classic! I would assume as with most things, different people prefer different things. Would not ICCS be out of business by now if they continually overlooked things on coins?

Further, could you not get an ICCS coin re-graded (or cross graded) by CCCS or even ANACS and then if it was greatly different, question them (ICCS) on it?

As a newbie, stuff like this kinda muddies the waters on which service I should be trusting....

That's just the thing...maybe 90% of the stuff they grade is done ok. But its the 10% that can really burn a hole in your wallet. Especially if buying online.

I can understand a few minor misses but some of the stuff they've passed, a 2-year old wouldn't. Its just unbelievable.
