I am looking for help with my 1858 large cent. I was wondering why NGC did not mention anything about the full vine and die break on the d in canada. All that is said on the hard holder is au55 BN.There are a bunch of numbers on the bottom and what are they 4048918-002.I hope you people that have graded coins can help me out on this one.

Neither NGC nor PCGS currently reflect Canadian large cent varieties on their holders, except the mainstream varieties W9/8, DP1, DP2, LDLL, SDLL, and SDSL.

There has been some conversation about PCGS certifying obverse types, but no progress yet. I think they are worried about the hybrid obverses (C1A/C1 and C2/C1) causing confusion. I have offered through one of their dealer reps to loan them my registry collection of Vicky cents with all of the obverse varieties, so they can make reference photos for the graders, but it hasn't gone anywhere.

CCCS has been certifying varieties for quite a while now. Louis has my books and will, I think, on request certify them with my die numbers. I have seen a few CCCS holders where he has done this.

ICCS will only certify varieties that reside in the front of the Charlton catalog. A few of us recently worked with Charlton on the 2012 catalog, due out soon. It will have eight or nine new large cent varieties in the front, including the 1858 full vine. ICCS will probably certify this variety after the catalog comes out.
