Hello, I am new to this forum. I have had this Liberty nickel over 40 years and have never been able to determine if it was real, or a error coin. But now I wonder if this could be a pattern coin. The coin weight is 5 grams and appears to be aluminum or some other like metal with a smooth edge. On the reverse there appears to be some extra metal at the edge. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Ron Edited by echizento 11/27/2006 09:19 am

Not really, it didn't seem to work when I tried. I would appreciate you doing that.

here are his pictures of the coin in question. I am no expert on these coins so I will await for others to reply, the only thing I can tell you about it is something you probably already know and that is that it is a 1883 "No Cents" Liberty nickel

5 g. is the perfect weight for a CuNi Liberty nickel. Yours has a Cud on the reverse, which is a very cool error, but the coin is in very bad shape so it is not worth very much. Here is my example..
