Does this coin have any value above melt? If not, what would be the best wy to clean it up? I know...never clean a coin...but in this case if it is only worth melt, I would rather have one pretty Morgan :-)
Thanks in advance

I'd say it's worth melt, especially with the high silver prices of late. Putting it in acetone for a few hours might help a bit, and shouldn't hurt the coin at all (except perhaps for removing a tad of luster). I'm experimenting with acetone at the moment and it seems to leave the test coins intact in my recent experiences.

Acetone will undoubtedly leave the coin intact - it won't react with silver - but I doubt there's a solution for making this one look "prettier."

Just to get the gunk off, I'd use acetone.

The trouble is, I don't think the dark areas on this coin are "gunk" - rather, they're chemical/tarnish in nature. Acetone won't touch them. If I'm wrong, and they are gunk which the acetone will remove, then the OP will have a coin with the same splotchy pattern only reversed - the current "lighter" areas will become the "darker" areas compared to the cleaner surfaces exposed by gunk removal.

The only thing I know of that would remove the color off of this coin is coin dip and that should never be an option unless all you want is a silver dollar for its silver content.

A dip is just fine, and if done right does no harm. That looks like acetone isn't going to do the trick, but no harm in trying it.

I am going to have to do the dipped/ not dipped pic thing again.
